“We drank, we ate, we sang… We wished the feast were over, so that we should not have to play this comedy any longer.”
I was in a way affected by this passage from the story. Elie felt like they were playing a comedy. That they wished Hanukkah was over because of their fear. I have never been in such a situation where I’ve wanted a feast meant for happiness and rejoice to end because of the possibility of something really bad happening to me and my family.
2) page 11
“How avid we were at the moment for one word of confidence, one sentence to say that the meeting could not have been more commonplace, more routine, that it had only been a question of social welfare, of sanitary arrangements! But one glance at my father’s haggard face was enough. “I have terrible news,” he said at last. “Deportation.”
I felt really sorry for them when I read this. They were so desperate for a different answer, something that had nothing to do with what was really going to happen to them. They were being deported because they were Jewish, they were going to a concentration camp because they were Jewish. That’s racist and just plain wrong.
3) page 31
“For the first time, I felt revolt rise up in me… What had I to thank Him for?”
At the beginning Elie is so serious about his religion and now he starts doubting his God because of what was happening to him and his family. At the end he might just end up not believing- or even hating God for having to go through such events that were so inhumane.
4) page 32
“Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed… Never.”
I couldn’t believe what I had just read after reading this passage. He says that his dreams, his soul, and his faith were gone after having to go on with his life after the holocaust. He says that he will never forget what has happened to him during that time. It’s sad and if it were me I would try to forget everything that happened to me in there even if I couldn’t. He pretty much lost everything during the holocaust. Elie lost his family, his possessions, his soul, his faith, and his dreams. I just can’t imagine something like that happening to me.
5) page 42
“Some talked of God, of his mysterious ways, of the sins of the Jewish people, and of their future deliverance… I did not deny God’s existence, but I doubted His absolute justice.”
I think at this point Elie wasn’t exactly that fond of God at the moment. He was doubting God’s justice, of course I would too if I were Elie. What the Germans were doing to the Jews and anybody else who was there because they didn’t qualify in Hitler’s eyes was absolute injustice. I think I somewhat understand how Elie was feeling about God at this point.
6) page 52
“I had watched the whole scene without moving… That is what concentration camp life had made of me.”
I was upset when I read this. Elie was angry at his father and not at the Kapo for beating his father or himself for thinking this. He was thinking of getting farther away so he wouldn’t get hit like his father was. I didn’t like that at all.

1. Why I think the Germans decided to hang prisoners in public when they killed thousands of people each day is maybe they wanted to try and look all big and tough while people were around because they couldn’t see the Jews being cremated or the other ways Germans were killing them so they wanted to do some in public. Or maybe they wanted to try and embarrass some of the prisoners that gave them a hard time.
2. How Elie’s relationship with his father changes throughout the book is in the beginning his father isn’t paying much attention to him. He goes around the neighborhood to help everyone else and make sure things are done right because he’s an important person in the town Elie lives in. As in the end or farther in to the book Elie becomes his father’s life. He watches him and every time he thinks its going to be over for him he tries to give Elie everything he has left so it could help him.
3. Why it is a significant act when Elie’s father trys to give him the knife and spoon when he is selected for selection is because he was trying to give his son everything he had left. To try and help his son survive long if he got picked. What Elie means when he says the inheritance is he gets the rest of the money his parents had stashed away before they got taken away. It meant that he would inherit it.
4. How his time at Auschwitz changed how he believed or his faith is he saw how terrible the jews were being treated and how bad he and his father were treated. Also he saw so many people were dying. So he started to wonder where god was, why wasn’t he helping them get out of the terrible things that were being done to them or stopping all the deaths from happening.
5. How the German workman causes the stampede is he startles the cattle. What this tells about the man is he his not nice and not considerate of other people. I mean they were already getting treated bad enough then had a stampede to worry about.
6. The conflict that arises Elie regarding his father is that is father is older so he doesn’t know if he is going to be able to travel in the snow that long when they are being moved. Also when selection comes he is scared that is father wont be able to pass it.
7. On January 28, 1945 an officer was yelling at Elie’s father to be quiet when he was asking Elie for some water. After he didn’t stop asking the officer came over and hit Elie’s father in the head with a gun which shattered his skull and had blood everywhere. That is what happened on the day January 28, 1945.
8. What this sentence means is he never forgot how he looked when he looked in the mirror. That the image he had had at the time will never leave his mind.
9. How Elie tried to keep the readers to not respond to his story how he and his father responded to Moshe the beadle’s story is he put more details in and it almost sounds like he was writing it as it happened so it sounds more real. I think he has been very successful at making his story sound real and really detailed it sounds like he was writing as everything was happening.
10. To be honest i really don’t know the meaning of the title “Night”. If i was to give another title to this story i would probably choose “memories” maybe. I think i would choose that because it is the memories of Elie Wiesel so it fits for the title i think.

1. Elie describes himself as the middle child in a Jewish family.
2. Moshe the Beatle is Elie’s next door neighbor.
3. How the town responded to Moshe and his stories is they thought he was just making it up to get people frightened,or scared, or just completely mad. Although he was telling the truth.
4. Why I think Elie Wiesel starts the story off with Moshe The Beatle is because later in the story Moshe The Beatle becomes very important to Elie and teaches him a lot.
5. How the German soldiers slowly take over Sighet is first they just bring soldiers around the small town. Then they start deporting people slowly out of the town and start taking their belongings.
6.How Elie’s family was separated is after they got deported and got to Auschwitz, the soldiers had men and women separate in to two lines and the line went opposite ways.
7. The Germans took there personal belongings because they did not want them to have anything. Why they shaved their heads and took their clothing is because so they’d all look a like and be wearing the same jail suits. They tattooed a number on each person’s arm because it was their new name and how they identified all of the Jewish people.
8.What it means to have a life turned in to one long night is it all became a blur. He was just doing something over and over so much that it felt like it was just one long night that would never end.
9. My reflection on the novel so far is it’s pretty good and pretty intense. In the beginning it was a little slow and boring, but i guess that’s how a lot of stories start. But when i started the second part it got really good. I mean i think it’s terrible what they put them through. It sounds like Elie and his father have had it a little good, but it’ll probably get worse for them as the story goes on. Well so far I like the novel, like I said it starts off slow but gets better as you get farther in to the novel.
No Jews were treated with fair freedom
Intense misbelieves and understanding for Elie Wiesel
Going from grief to sorrow in the nick of time, everyone grows weak
Hatred becoming the most powerful emotion from the Jews
Time passes by, as you look in the mirror, and see the person who you think is you, but has left you with the past and memories…

The Electric car invention is a great idea, this is really great news. A lot of people may be looking forward to this, i know i am.
